Nora Mills

After leaving Helen we stopped at Nora Mills just outside of town. This is the site of an old grist mill and granary. Today they have turned it into a country store but they do have some of the old stones used for grinding the corn into meal. They sell cornmeal in the cloth bags and have all sorts of general country store goodies for sale…. jams, molasses, honey, as well as cooking utensils and such. It was an interesting place to stop. My Granddaddy Ray used to have a corn meal behind his house and would grind corn for people in the area. I still recall the smell of the mill and when I walked inside Nora Mill I was greeted with that same scent I recall from my childhood days at Granddaddy’s mill.
