One thing I have always enjoyed photographing is covered bridges. On our way to Helen we took a short detour to see a covered bridge we had read about. I was greatly disappointed to find it is now the local “swimming hole”. The place was full of locals enjoying swimming in the river. That part was fine but the condition of the bridge was sad. It is covered with graffiti. It doesn't show up well in the pictures below but in person it looks awful. It always disturbs me to see destruction such as this on a historical site. This particular bridge was featured in the 1951 movie I'd Climb the Highest Mountain, starring Susan Heyward.
