From Half Moon Bay we continued our journey toward Monterey. We drove to a pier area that had shops etc… parked the car and walked around to look at the seals. We saw some were lying on wooden beams under the pier area and wondered how they were able to get up there. We watched until we saw they could actually jump up from the water and land themselves on the beams. One seal in particular caught our eye. He had struggled to get up on a beam and finally made it. We all decided he was an adolescent male and let’s just say he provided us with a little entertainment trying to take care of his sexual needs. None of us had ever seen anything like that before so the giggles continued. Just before we left I saw a clam shell that was open and was a pretty blue color on the inside. I was photographing it and moving it around when I realized it looked like a butterfly. Now we had our mammoth butterfly!!! The giggling became more intense. We finally made it to Monterey and checked into our hotel which was right on the beach. It had been a long day of travel and we decided to have a nice meal and margaritas. Cindy had never had a margarita before so we introduced her to them. After dinner we went downstairs to the hotel bar and ordered another round of them. Colleen and I like a lot of salt on our glasses and the restaurant bar had not put much on the glasses so we asked for extra salt at the downstairs bar, and boy did they give it to us! More giggling! And the night was still young....
