On our way to Big Bend we spent a day in Marfa, Texas and went out to observe the famous “Marfa Lights”. We were not disappointed. When we first arrived at the viewing area it was still daylight and there were only 2 or 3 other people there. As it got dark, more people arrived but the crowd remained small that night. Not long after dark we started seeing the mysterious lights in the Chinati Mountains. We were told by the locals that you can’t see them every night but viewing seems to be better after a rain and it had rained earlier in the day. I took a lot of photos and even some video footage. Most of the photos didn’t come out well since it was dark but a few are worthy of posting here. The lights appear spherical in shape and move about, split apart then blend together. They disappear and reappear. They have been observed to vary in size and range in color from white to orange to red. There have been reports of them flying and even chasing cars. All sorts of testing has been done over the years including a group of scientists from Korea (I believe) who came to try to figure out exactly what the lights are. To this day they remain a mystery. Some people claim they are only car lights but this is hard to believe since they have been observed for well over 100 years, long before cars or electricity. I was thrilled to be able to see them myself.

We stayed over night in Marfa and the next morning when we got up to leave I saw these birds on a desert plant. I called it a "bird tree" and just had to take a couple of photos. They were all facing the morning sun.
