Temperature Fluxuations

We had a fun, fun, fun weekend. Since so much happened that I want to blog about I am planning to make several blog entries about different parts of our weekend. We picked our grand daughter, Hannah, up on Saturday morning and headed up into the mountains of North Carolina. We wanted to take her gem mining. David and I have both been on various occasions and we took our kids when they were young and we thought it would be something that Hannah would love too and she did!
The previous week had been really hot and humid here and a weekend up in the mountains sounded perfect to us... a place to go and cool off. And cool off is exactly what we did! Temps here have been in the 96-97 degree range lately and very, very humid. On the ride up to the mountains the temp kept dropping as we got higher and higher in elevation.

The truck has a thermometer and as we climbed we watched the reading continue to drop. I was taking photos each degree it dropped and 63 degrees was the lowest on the way there. That's a 34 degree difference and boy did it ever feel wonderful!

Coming home today was really chilly. We decided to go to Mount Mitchell, the highest point east of the Rocky Mountains, and it was extremely windy and cold. The lowest temp we registered was 55 degrees. We drove up into the clouds and Hannah loved it but she wasn't very happy with the cold winds. We had taken jackets with us and wore them to keep warm but with the high winds it wasn't easy. I have been to Mt. Mitchell on several occassions and every time has been the same... a very hot summer day... yet when you get there it feels like winter time.

We dropped Hannah off at her house in NC and came home to SC only to find 90 degrees, hot, humid and sunny waiting for us. ICK! Now I'm wishing I was back on Mt. Mitchell.
