Oh DEER!

OK, so there are times in life when we become rather complacent and think we've seen it all. Just about the time I start feeling that way I see something that literally boggles the mind and makes me quickly realize that I have not seen it all, not yet anyway. This is a story about such an event. Yesterday evening David and I decided to take a nice little drive up to North Carolina to eat dinner at a little place we enjoy located in the cute little town of Tryon. We arrived just ahead of the crowds and were seated and enjoyed a nice meal. On the way home we decided to take a different route, one we had never been on before. It was such a beautiful evening and we were in no hurry so there we were driving down this country road when I saw it... To my surprise there was a doe, yes a female deer, wearing a collar and enclosed in a fenced in area in the front yard of a house. She was gracefully walking around. The house looked pretty dumpy and dirty, like many along that road but I was totally shocked to see a deer being kept as a pet in someone's yard. OK, so maybe I haven't seen it all. The night before we saw all the tame bunny rabbits at the camp ground we visited and then last night it was the pet deer. Very strange indeed! I felt sorry for the doe, a wild animal to be pinned up in a fenced yard. It may very well be the only life's she's ever known but still, it just didn't feel right to me. I didn't have my camera with me at the time or there would be a photo here for you to see... sorry about that.
